Alanis Morissette Returns With New ‘Flavors’

“I always have this moment right before a record comes out where I wake up in the middle of the night horrified and terrified,” Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette admits to AOL Music. Four years have passed since Morissette’s last release, and her new album ‘Flavors of Entanglement’ hits stores on June 10.

Morissette stopped by to record an AOL Sessions set comprised of cuts off of the new record and some past hits like ‘Hand In My Pocket.’ While Morissette’s songwriting is just as confessional and personal as ever, she says she “will never admit who the songs are about.”

“I don’t write songs for the sake of outing someone or pointing a finger in that way,” Morissette explains, despite recent gossip concerning her ex-fiance — actor Ryan Reynolds — who recently got engaged to Scarlett Johansson. “I’m writing it to get it out of my system.”

No stranger to life in the public eye, Morissette feels empathy for other celebrities whose lives are exploited.

“We all have differerent levels of fragility and different levels of sanity. Being thrust into the public eye when you barely have your bearings as a human being, let alone a human being in a fish bowl, can be very challenging,” says Morissette.
