Hanson have announced their upcoming fall tour, set to kick off in Portland, Ore. on Sept. 7, and they’re encouraging concertgoers to join them in their campaign to fight poverty and AIDS in Africa.
The band members — brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac — have been hosting barefoot, mile-long awareness walks before their concerts in cities throughout the country for the past year. Hanson’s new goal is to compile a collective total of 24,902 miles, which is the distance around the world. For every mile walked, the band will donate $1 towards relieving the crises.
“The walk is about taking action, no matter how small,” says Taylor. “Our generation has the power to fight global challenges by looking at tangible actions and putting them to work.”
Hanson are now encouraging others to not only join their walks on tour but to also set up their own local walks, which can be coordinated at TakeTheWalk.net, set to launch in mid-August.
“Each mile shows the power of simple actions to make a difference. The real impact comes when participants see how much more they can do,” Zac says.
The tour, aptly titled ‘The Walk Around the World Tour,’ will continue to support the 3CG Records release ‘The Walk,’ which debuted in the Top 5 on Billboard’s Independent Chart in 2007.
Along with the announcement of tour dates and continued activism efforts — including a new book that comes with an EP of new music, raising funds for aid groups in Africa — came the unveiling of The Walk Bus, an all-inclusive experience that allows fan club members to follow the band on tour for a week.
The current set of dates culminates in Chicago in early November, though more are to come.
