International News: Reveller murdered on Full Moon Party island

A gang of Thai teenagers stabbed to death an Israeli tourist attending the Full Moon Party this week, following a fight between the Thais and a group of Israelis in the Drop In Bar on Rin Beach.

The Bangkok Post said cops found David Kakitelashvic, 31, collapsed on the floor after being stabbed repeatedly in the body and head, while his attackers, said to include the son of a prominent politician, escaped.

“We know who the culprits are and will ask the court to issue a warrants for their arrest today,” local police boss Likhit Chumchuay told German press agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur. “The suspects include the son of a local politician, who has a bad reputation for bothering foreigners.”

The brutal killing happened almost three years after unknown Thai gunmen shot and killed two Thai beach party revellers at an earlier Full Moon party on the island, though Skrufff’s Bangkok correspondent Bee (from Futon) said the latest murder was unusual.

“Koh Pangan is a party Island with people getting high bumping into other people that are coming down so sure there’s going to be incidents, but this one was particularly violent,” he agreed, “But after being here for 15 years I have yet to hear of any mindless violence instigated by a Thai, they aren’t easy to provoke generally, quite the opposite.”

“Having said that, when Thais lose their cool, they really lose it and given the fact that Koh Pangan’s main attractions are alcohol, drugs and partying, then perhaps it’s not so surprising,” he added.
