Interview: Leigh Morgan (Urbantorque Recordings)

(London, UK) – Often the most creative achievements are born out of frustration. This is true of British label Urbantorque Recordings. Leigh Morgan and Jason Moore became increasingly frustrated about not having a creative as well as business output for the music that lay close to their hearts: cue the birth of Urbantorque in 2001.

It took until 2005 for the label to really take off, with the British duo giving label more attention. With releases from Funk D’Void under his Francois Dubois guise, Tom Middleton, Sam Ball, Harold Heath, Satoshi Fumi, Audio Soul Project and Milton Jackson in the last two years, Urbantorque is highly respected in industry circles today.

The protocol seems to be to champion deep, quality timeless dance music, ignoring the fads and trends of the time. Crucually also there is real attention to detail, even in the well written and at times witty press releases that accompany the music that makes its way into the 365Mag Reviews post box.

Now its time for label chief Leigh Morgan to face the full 365Mag interview with Paul Sparkes. Hit up the link for a real behind the scenes look at running a successful dance label in 2007.
