International News: Bjork and Thom Yorke team up
It’s the stuff indie dreams are made of – Bjork’s people’ have announced the new single from the Icelandic chanteuse features Thom Yorke of Radiohead on backing vocals. Nattura, due out in the US on 20 October, takes its name from the free open-air festival Bjork and Sigur Ros staged in Reykjavík this June. The two vocalists have pooled their considerable powers before for I’ve Seen It All from the Dancer In The Dark soundtrack (the film of course featured a flooring performance from Bjork in the lead role). This collaboration, like the festival, is part of the effort to “highlight a grass roots movement in Iceland to reclaim the country’s natural resources and wilderness from the hands of big business and pollution.” We wait with breath a-baited for the song’s release. The inaugural Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival, which aims to feature rock, blues, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, world, soul, Latin and electronic on five stages, will take place August 22-24 at the 1,000-plus acre venue. Additional acts will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets will go on sale at the end of March, with pricing still to be worked out. Organizers hope to draw about 60,000 fans on each of the three days. Johnson, who has ruled the U.S. pop charts for the last three weeks with his album "Sleep Through the Static," is one of the headliners at the Coachella festival in southern California (April 25-27). Additionally, he and Radiohead top the bill for the inaugural All Points West festival near New York City (August 8-10).
